We broke the chain,
a silent thread,
woven from wounds
of those before.
When pain arises,
and we fear our children,
carry the weight of family,
culture, and society’s scars.
breath,
turn inward,
tend to our healing.
Each step we take
toward gentler ground
plants a seed
for those who come after.
Our healing is not only ours,
it ripples,
softening old echoes,
turning pain into peace.
We pass down our healing too.
Title: We Pass Down Our Healing Too
Artist: A Devoted Mother
Date Created: N/A
Words from the Artist: A therapist once told me “We pass down our healing too.” Those are very powerful words to me because they freed me from the fear that my young child might inherit the weight of intergenerational trauma from her dad’s family. I realized that by focusing on my own healing, I’m not only helping myself—I’m also helping her. This message touched me so deeply that I wrote a poem with this as its title, and I felt called to share it with fellow survivors.
